Some New Found Creative Flow

Halloween is in sight and I'm preparing already with some decorations that are easy and quick. Along with my anticipation for one of my all-time favorite holidays is the motivation for my first film. It is a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, one I think has not been put to screen as of yet. So I have lots of room to explore its facets and not worry too much about copying someone else's style.
I already have some scribbles of images and scenes and notes on construction. Storyboards are coming underway as is the shot list and treatment. Along with the storyboards I hope to get a better sense of the characters concepts.
I look forward to revealing little by little my progress, but until then, here is an image of my first Halloween decoration inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas.
It is the hanging tree. I found the dead branch on one of my walks last week. It immediately got me thinking of building a little diorama scene with some LED lights and all that, but I needed to simplify if I was going to enjoy this creation soon. So I came up with the hanging tree, nice and easy. I plan on adding some moss and a partial headstone to the base. Initially I was going to make the skeletons from wire and air dry clay and make them posable, but I don't have enough time since classes have started again. Thank goodness to Michael's Arts and Crafts for the perfect size of skeletons on twine as a garland, otherwise I would be procrastinating on this one. Also, I'd like to point out that I looked up online how to tie a proper hangman's noose, and did little one's for each skeleton. It was really easy and morbidly fun ( I think I was actually giggling). Perhaps in one of my former live's I was an executioner.
Anywho, enjoy your preparations for the fall season, and I will hope to add more content and updates of my film.

  1. Naomi, congrats on the blog. Like the format, colors, typefont. Good to see you publishing. Question: is there any way to change the Blog Archive width? In Chrome and Safari, the layout is so narrow that the titles of your posts are spread out over multiple lines with only 1-3 characters per line -- kinda hard to read.

    1. Hello Anonymous!!
I finally see your comment ten years later. Lots has happened in that time, and I appreciate your bringing the odd layout to my attention. It definitely didn't look like that to me on my end. I widened it as far as it would go, and now I see I've got lots of missing photos. I'm not sure when or how that happened but I'll be updating and reinserting those photos asap. Thank you so much for your feedback! And I hope to hear more from you now that I'm back to work.
